The Essence of Place: an outdoor installation.

The Essence of Place was an event which I organised for my RSPB artist residency. It consisted of a single-channel outdoor audiovisual installation and was screened at RSPB Loch Lomond on the 21st October 2017. The Essence of Place is a short filmpoem, revealing the fragility of nature and the relationship between memory and place through poetry, soundscapes and images. Filmpoetry event with Guy Sherwin, Jennifer Wicks and Jen Hadfield.

This event took place on the 1st Nov 2017, and I organised it as part of my doctoral research project Experiencing the Filmpoem. The evening explored the unique relationship between film and poetry through poetry readings, film screenings and discussion relating to the artistic process, memory, nature and landscape. Poet Jen Hadfield read some new poetry including Draftmanship, The Graves of Children and A Recipe, artist and filmmaker Guy Sherwin screened his own 16mm print of Messages, Glasgow-based artist Jennifer Wicks screened Genius Loci and Sound of Snow.
